FG To Pay Nigerians To Attend Technical, Vocational Schools (video) - Education -

Image
The  Federal Government says it will pay Nigerians to acquire skills from technical and vocational schools . According to the  Minister of Education Tunji Alausa , the move is part of the government’s resolve to diversify the economy and address the lack of vocational skills in Nigeria. “ You go to the UK, or the US today, a plumber earns more than a doctor. If an electrician in England earns more than a doctor, so what are you talking about here?”  the minister quizzed when he was featured on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today. “So, we want to now bring this pool of workers back. So what we’re doing with technical and vocational education is that we’ve laid out a four-step approach here. “ We would pay students to go to those schools. We’ve modeled how much we’re going to pay them when we roll the programme out. We’ll be announcing that. we’ll pay them to go to school. That’s step one . ” https://www.channelstv.com/2025/01/28/video-fg-to-pay...

Nigeria’s Central Bank orders NIBSS to debit banks over fraudulent transactions, tightening accountability To curb fraud in the financial services sector, Nigeria’s Central Bank has directed the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) to debit the settlement accounts of commercial banks that receive fraud proceeds. The directive, effective January 2025, signals a shift towards greater accountability for banks, compelling them to tighten their fraud detection measures. According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the new rule is part of the CBN’s efforts to hold banks and fintechs accountable for lapses in their transaction monitoring systems. Banks that fail to vet incoming transactions or detect fraudulent activity adequately will face instant debits once that activity is reported. Microsoft in Talks to Acquire TikTok Amidst Ongoing Security Concerns - Donald Trump. US President Donald Trump has confirmed that Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok, amidst uncertainty surrounding the app's future in the United States. This development comes after a US law ordered TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to divest its ownership or face a ban in the country. Trump revealed that there's significant interest in TikTok, and a potential bidding war could be beneficial. The US government's concerns stem from fears that the Chinese government might exploit TikTok to spy on Americans or influence public opinion. In response to the impending ban, Trump suspended its implementation for two and a half months to facilitate negotiations with Beijing. TikTok temporarily shut down in the US as the deadline approached but restored services after Trump promised to issue an executive order delaying the ban. This acquisition, if successful, would mark a significant shift...
