TotalEnergies, AMNI To Invest $800 Million In Nigeria's Ima Gas Field - Business

 

TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA), opens new tab and its Nigerian partner AMNI have taken ​a final investment decision to ‌develop the offshore Ima gas field in Nigeria, which will supply a Nigeria LNG liquefaction ​plant, the French oil major ​said on Wednesday.

The field is expected to ⁠begin production in 2028 and reach ​plateau output of 350 million cubic ​feet of gas per day, equivalent to more than 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

TotalEnergies ​said gas from Ima, located on ​OML 112 and 117 near Bonny Island, would ‌be ⁠transported by pipeline to Nigeria LNG and provide about one-third of the gas needed for the Train 7 expansion ​project.

The expansion ​is expected ⁠to raise liquefaction capacity to 30 million metric tons per ​year from 22 million tons ​currently.

The ⁠project marks a further step in its integrated gas strategy in Nigeria by ⁠adding ​low-cost gas resources.

Now I see why Mr. President opted to stay in Paris instead of attending UNGA. Last week, the International Arbitration Panel sitting in Paris gave its final verdict in respect of the Manbilla hydropower project dispute in favor of Nigeria. Today, French Oil giant TotalEnergies in collaboration with AMNI announced the final investment decision in Ima gas field. A total of $800illion will be committed immediately into the project. By 2028, this field will be producing 350 million cubic ​feet of gas per day. That will bring a very huge increase into the Federation Account.

Omo, God bless President Bola Tinubu and I pray he will have the energy to continue to do more for the country. This is a gas field that has been discovered and abandoned since 1973 by successive government. Now, Nigerians are about to benefit maximally from it.
